HI Guys,
My name is Michael, I'm from France, living in NH since the beginning of the year.
Thanks to my dad, I've always been around beautiful American cars, driving his Cadillac, going to meetings, sitting in Corvettes, even drove an original Cobra (can still remember the feelling.. WOW!)
I'm looking at many classic cars, to be honest, i'm not attached to a particular brand more than another, I simply would like one of each :)
I came across an example of a '65 Mustang hardtop for sale; I know, they are not the most desirable.. still, it looks solid, few dents here and there, big Windsor v8, etc..
And I noticed a sticker of your club on the windshield. If any of you guys know the car, and have any info on it i'd be grateful to know a bit more about it.
And even if you don't know this car, have you ever come across that big section of square tubing under the rear wheels ?
It looks like reinforcment to the spring leafs, but I never saw something protruding so much before... dodgy modification or dragstrip's finest ?
Thanks guys, and maybe meet you soon :)

Hi & WELCOME. Give us your location in text or in your BIO profile. You'll get quicker responses when folks know where you are.
I do know of a few classic cars in Derry NH area. One 66 coupe from California for sale v8 car. Plus know of others. Let me know if I can help if close enough.

Welcome Mike!
The attachment you used doesn't work.
If you're having trouble attach it to an email to nhmustangs (at) gmail dot com and I can post it in here for you.
Do you have more details about where it is, model, color, etc? Might help us identify it....

Welcome Mike,
George is your man when it comes to the classic Mustang. Good luck with your search and maybe we'll see you around sometime soon.
Hi, thanks for your answers :)
I just saw that the attachment didn't work..
but it did when I previewed my post... strange..
Here's the full link tot he shop that sells it, hopefully it'll work.

There's a ding on the rear left corner, which I'm not too worried about.. But the big square tube under the rear wheels seems very low...
so low in fact, I'm not even sure I could get in in the multi storey parking where I work, as there's short - but steep - slope at the entrance..

Kind of looks like Gillis' friend's build that he did a few years back. I forget the guys name. Not too sure if it really is, but it kind of looks like it.

The "tube" underneath is what is called "traction bars". Used to keep the springs from deflecting which keeps wheels to the ground. You're correct those will hit in some places like rail road crossings.
I'd look for a car not so "wild" if having a nice driver is what you really want. I do have a couple friends with car for sale depending what rough $$$ you wanna spend.
Hi guys, thanks for your replies, I learnt something new today "traction bars" :)
TBH, my budget is kinda limited for now.. the 17k that he's asking are already well off limits...
10 grand is somewhat my psychological limit that i don't want to go over for a toy car.
BUT, I have looked at cheaper cars.. and they are often well beyond my repair capabilities...
(I even looked a VW bugs - easy to fix - cheap to run .... but often painted over decades of rust...)
I'm keeping eyes open for a middle size (I believe they called it compact in the 60's ?) classic in need of TLC, but can drive as it is.
who said buying a classic was easy ? ;)
Have a nice day!

If you'd like a restored '86 GT, not perfect but nice looking, let me know. Under your $10k limit.

You should swing by a couple of cruise nights and definitely make it to the Mustang Mania show on July 20 -- there are usually some for sale.
I would love to come to the cruise nights !!! I believe the dates are somewhere on the server, I'll look it up.
Mustang mania ? Where is it held ?
And for the '86, thanks .. but that 80s shape is really not working for me...

Cruise nights are in Hooksett, at Advance Auto Parts. 1292 Hooksett Rd (exit 9N from 93)
NHMC's Mustang Mania will be at the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Merrimack, NH, on July 20.

Which 80s shape? There were two similar, but distinct styles:
This one: 1979-86 (this is an '86)

And the 1987-93: (this is an 87)
http://themustangsource.com/timeline/87-93/87/GT2.jpg
With your budget, you MIGHT find a 1965-70 "classic", but it's probably gonna be pretty rough. To tell the truth, the Fox bodies (the 79-93's) are kind of the "bang for the buck" -- cheap to buy and modify and a lot of fun to drive, although the prices do seem to be going up fast for good examples. I have a 1990 as well as the '03 Cobra in my signature. I like driving the 90 quite a bit (I drive it WAY more than my Cobra), but I'll admit I think the 1986 was the best looking of all the Foxes.
You could look at the "Big Body" 71-73 Mustangs too - I think the prices are more reasonable, but a lot of people don't like the styling.
A 1971:

Yep, that's from '79 that the shapes are just not working with me..
I guess "Classic" cars for me really ends with the late seventies.
71 though .. I probably won't get a Mach1, but that's something I'll look into !
Have a good day guys :)

Hey Mike, nice to hear from you, welcome to the forum, and I really hope you can make our Mustang Mania show at the Budweiser Brewery in Merrimack. If you do attend, by all means please stop by and say Hi......
found a possible candidate ... '70 stang 302 in need of a paint job.
and possibly interior stuff judging by the seat covers.
i have asked for pictures of the engine bay.. just to get a feeling.
The guy told me registration and inspection just ran out (coincidence?)

let me know what you guys think :)

Hard to tell by pics, but speaking from experience, look under the car!!! Any rust under there run away. Especially in the rocker panels, those are expensive to replace.
You are right about the paint, needs it and again depending on what color you want can cost you some $$$. Looks like a lost of wires hanging out from the dash too in the pic of the shifter.
You just never know until you see it in person.

Walk around it with a magnet, checking for bondo. Nice car but keep in mind depending on how orig (or not) you'd like to make it. Sometimes parts are not always as easy to find as earlier built mustangs. Don't see any mileage stated. Would be nice to know how worn the engine, trans, rear end are. Look at condition/age of engine wire harness, years of heat and age can take a toll.
Thanks for the feedback :)
but the budget is way cooler that the first one I found...
the question is now is it worth it ?
I think I'll go check this one with my very eyes see how much work would be needed..
Was too busy last week, didn't get a change to go check this one out..
next coming weeks look even worse, until october when things settle down at work.
Looks like I won't be having a muscle car for my 30th after all :(

Try to make a few weekend shows like Skips coming up this weekend. Sometimes cars for sale on field.
I'm still on the lookout for a nice stang...
browsing cl when i saw a 72 mach 1.... looks decent. The owner wants $9500...
Where's the catch?
I'll have to go see this one! 70's isn't my favorite shape, but that's still nice enough to get me in the stang club :)
If you got a minute, have a look and let me know what you think!

Not a lot of detail in the pics, but it looks pretty clean. I suspect it's high miles judging by the overall condition. The "big body" Mustangs aren't worth as much as the previous ones, so $9500 seems reasonable if the car is in good condition.
Definitely want to inspect it closely -- preferably bring someone with you who knows old Mustangs.
I am not an expert in the 71-73s, but according to The Mustang Source (http://themustangsource.com/timeline/71-73/72/index.htm) the '72s didn't come with a 429 -- but the 1971s did. So either this is a swapped engine or maybe it's really a 71....? (anyone know the styling difference between the two?)

For the $$$ looks ok. But as said 429 most likely not orig. So keep in mind if repair parts down the road avail for it. I can see some work done to it like distributor swapped out, gas tank maybe, steering wheel. Not bad things.
Years ago my brother in-law had a think '72 with stock 351. Think they were know then to be one of the fastest production cars on the road. That was a Mach I with the 351 so a 429 is gonna perhaps have a heavy front end feel. Also worst thinh know with those cars was trying to see out the back window. Glass almost flat so VERY poor vision to see out the back. A bad rear vision blind spot.
You guys rock :)
I'll try to be at the next cruise night to discuss car stuff!
I did get a bit more details on the car, here's what I know:
The current owner had it for about three years now. the restore was done a
few years before that. it is orig mach1 but not orig engine. the odo. says 80,000 and he was told the motor has about 30,000. very little rust.
the paint has a few minor spots. and the interior is good but not perfect. it needs tires. the tread is good but tires have dry rot from sitting over the winter.
other than that the owner says its been driving great. has a title and passes inspection no prob.
Can't wait to go see the little blue mach1 with my own eyes... And magnet ;) !

I owned a 71' Mach 1 (my first Mustang!!!) with a 351C and I can say it was a little heavy in the front and a little "scary" at speeds over 100mph !!! The big long body was not as aerodynamic as it looks !!Some great memories, most I can't mention on the forum, with that Mustang. Overall, a real head turner and would a beast with a 429 in it.Good luck and check the bottom for rust before you make the plunge.
Thanks for the feedback!
I'll probably be scared well before 100mph in a car older than me...
I don't expect getting more than 10mpg either.
But I think that for the money... + 4 tires.. That'll make my 30th year on this planet wayyyy better ;)
If anyone interested in coming over to check it out, drinks on me!
Mhh, the ad has been deleted... Looks like I took too long to shoot on this one... :(

You should check out other cruise nights, too.
At Thirsday Night Candia, NH 1st Stop, exit 3 off 101E, there was at least 2 or 3 early Mustangs for sale.
There was a nice 1967 Coupe in the back row, 2 cars down from Mike's 66 Mustang, who attended the NH Mustang Club Cruise Night last week.
There was also a 1969 Copper colored fastback or mach 1? near the booth for sale.
And more cars were coming in when I left around 7pm.
