Am I reading that wrong? All of those cars are sold?
the 7-up car sold for $9900? 13k miles with a supercharger? Seem's a little high, but under 10k for that car is realistic.
Who ever bought the 98 cobra got ripped off...$13k is way to much for a that car with 70k miles on it.

Yup, SOLD prices... not including the vodka drinks to go with it. lol
I feel ya gotta watch prices all week and kinda feel for an average. Note as week goes on, more people show up, better cars, prices only go up from here in many cases.

looks like BJ is now on the new Foxsports network...I actually get to watch it since I don't have SPEED
I have to say, production value is much better with MECUM , and I like the hosts better with MECUM too. But, its all good, now I just have another car auction to torture my wife with on TV LOL

There is no more SPEED channel, Fox Sports one "bought" it out.
At least it will give me something to do tonight. There is NOTHING on TV any more!

From Thur nites auction:
I'm a little surprised at how high this 1967 vert went for. Todd a little wax on wax off, you'd be golden. lol

I'm with Ian on this one. The BJ auction is lame compared to Mecum. The commentators seem lifeless so it gets boring awefully fast.
For some reason O'Shea likes this auction. I guess boring attracts boring.

TV people aside, the SOLD prices here and at other auctions set the tone for the market for the coming year. The auto insurers (such as Hagerty which I have) set their market values based on the industries SOLD cars.
It's kinda interesting to see both where some cars are priced, & some of the old cool cars. Maybe more interesting to those of us that own older cars and appreciate the "ground up" restoration work. Heck, just turn volume off and all good. lol

I dont fully buy into this one George. Maybe it's true on "old" cars like yours.
I'm basing my opinion off of a sale that I saw last year..... There was an 03 CObra that sold last year for $40+ thousand at one of these auctions. That "sale" price didn't help the overall Sales prices of cars like mine as they are still hovering around 15-25k on average.

As I said prices are taken from a bunch of auctions, not one car sale, an average meaning more than one sale. So if 1 car sold 40k, another 15K, well you know...

never watched but the MECUM aution is on TODAY 1/18/14 from 11-5pm on Esquire channel.
Thoughts after watching Mecum:
Almost as many commercials but that's the network.
Two diff styles of auctions.
Mecum has way more newer cars from the 90's and 2000's than older cars.
Looks like most going across the block have reserves then lifted during. Whereas most all Barrett J's cars go up with NO reserve.
If you're a bidder in audience or even a spectator at Mecum, you have a hard time getting a good view of cars rolling along if you're seated because they are all at floor level where as BJ auction drive up on a raised stage. This also allows for a "chassis cam" to show the detail work underneath which is NICE on older cars.
At the Barrett auctions you have a very knowledgeable person walking around cars validating options and VIN, explaining the quality and more details and options especially on older cars. Compared to Mecum, just reading general comments from a booth on side of stage. Just watched a Sunbeam Tiger roll acrooss, bidding started then rolled along, comment made "bidding continues" then they rolled another car up and never closed on what Tiger sold for before starting another. Strange.
Just 2 diff style auctions.
Like Barrett Jackson better, more knowledgeable details on older cars as well as more of them.

Was at the lake this weekend with limited TV up there during the winter (which I actually don't mind, I go up there to get away from life). BJ was on FOX then switched to NetGeo, which for some unknown reason, I actually get of basic, no-box cable? I was surprised at how high some early '70 vettes were going for, some over 1mil. And I was a little surprised at how little the King Cobra went for (if I remember correctly it was 1.5mil) I would have thought that if a '71 vette went for 3.4mil that the cobra would have gone for at least 2.5. But I was happy to sit and watch the snow fall and read a few Mustang Monthly back issues that I just haven't read.
Mecum I will watch every once in a while, and like George said, it's just a different type of way of auctioning. To me it's a little more showboaty, I just like watching the cars and dreaming a little of what I might get if I ever win the big bucks game.

I preferred Mecum when it was on Discovery HD, now that's it's switched to esquire ( why or when that happened, I am not sure ) it's changed a little bit
One thing I will say, is that if if a car doesn't sell on Mecum, it passes onto the "the bid goes on", could take hours or days for it to sell so they can't always report back on how it does.
I dunno, i still prefer mecum...maybe its because I have been watching it for years and I am just used to it and it makes for better TV? Now that both are on broadcast TV ill just get to watch two auctions now :)

Not mustanggy, but I heard the Snake/Mongoose hauler funny car duo went for a million to Rick Hendrick. What a cool foursome of vehicles to have. Not too bad a price either.....IMHO

At first it didn't sell, then they came back about 20 minutes later and said that it sold but didn't give a $$$. I think that the trucks were the coolest part of the sale, but then again, I'm not a huge drag racing fan. And if I heard correctly, one of the cars didn't run, but the one that did run was a replica

For those of us with classic or collectable cars, I received an email today from my Hagerty ins co. with a summary of where the car market pricing is going this year based on results of sold cars across several auctions held. Good news for us that hold the cars, prices climbing.
