First no touching in Football, now no trying to catch the ball in baseball. The runner NEVER touched the leg that came up. I don't know, sports in general are starting to not be a sport anymore. Just let the players play!!
Was watching the BC game yesterday and one of the BC players got ejected because a receiver came down and his head landed on the BC's players shoulder. The BC player was called for hit to the head. It was unintentional, just like the play last night. LET THEM PLAY!!!

The call was "technically" correct, but you know what Ump? How about not calling a technical foul on the last play in a tie score game at the bottom of the 9th that will award the win. ESPECIALLY during the Series. If he hadn't called it, we would have a tie score, been forced into a tenth inning (or more) and could've actually seen which team was better. Going in I expected the Sox to lose the 1st game in STL, but not like that.
This ump decided the game -- the Cards didn't "win" and the Sox didn't "lose".

What a d-bag.

Well, the Sox have always seemed to be a come from behind team. It's when it seems they have it in the bag that we need to worry about them finding a way to blow it. Four more games left and with them running behind at this point I'm hopeful!

It was the right call And that did not cost them the game that happened in the first Inning And keeping JD Drew in the game should have not even started And if the call was the other way there would be no complaining Its Baseball :(

Dennis -- JD Drew isn't in this series (we know you meant Stephen Drew). ButI agree with Dennis; the call was the right one; even John Farrell said it was the right call. Don't fault the umpire's call, find fault with the rule. That obstruction rule has been in play for years and it should be revised to give the umpire's some latitude in those situations. The real issue is that the Red Sox are NOT playing good ball. Saltalamachia made a lousy throw; his second of the series and he can't put his bat on the ball. Drew should be benched as well -- 1 for 12 in the series, 4 for 45 in the playoffs, those are really lousy numbers. The club cannot win when only the first 4 batters in the lineup are hitting somewhat consistently. The Sox hit .202 in the series with Detroit, and they are around .175 so far with St. Louis. These numbers aren't going to win a World Series Championship.

But at least last night's ending was decided by the players, not some rule that makes incidental contact illegal.

Joe Torre has said that the rule will be revisited by this winter to see whether it should be adjusted to allow the Umpire some discretion in making such a call in the future.

now two days and 1 game removed, it was one of those plays that was too close to call....and the tie went to the runner.

Coach has got to decide closely whether to have players in game for hitting or defense, a fine line as some suck at the plate.

Huh? There was no "close call". The way the rule is written is no matter how, if a defensive player is in the way its obstruction. NO MATTER of intent. So Technically it was the correct call, it was just a BS call to call in that situation. And to bring that rule out at that time was just weird.
