C7 Vette

A guy just pulled into work with a brand new C7 Corvette Stingray.

Damn, that is a beautiful car. And the exhaust tone is AMAZING.
I don't care that people say it's too derivative of other sports cars -- it's a gorgeous piece of automotive art, and probably the only Corvette I would consider owning since the days of the old Stingrays.

I saw that wagon online the other day!! :D
Jen also wants the '67 with a 427, but I think she needs a couple more jobs to be able to get one.
As for the new one, from the pic, the rear window line just looks odd to me. I haven't seen any other pics online (haven't really looked for them either yet, maybe this afternoon when my patient's don't show up)

Very sexy front end, hate the Camaro looking rear end. Heard a rumor the other day from Ford that the new 2015 Mustang (Shelby version) will be called the SVT Cobra,since Carrol is no longer with us.Keep you posted.

they don't make that much power, search on youtube for baseline dyno numbers. They are usually in the 400/410 range from the few i have seen.

it's just a very well designed and executed chassis.

The guy who was driving it said it's 460hp from the factory. So if it's dynoing in the 410rwhp range, it's got a very efficient transmission.

He said he almost pulled the rigger on a Shelby instead. But after seeing the C7, I think he made the right choice. Wayyyy sexier.

why? -- Im a Mustang guy through and through -- but if somebody offered me a new Shelby or a new C7 -- it would be no contest. The new Vette is -- to me -- the best looking Vette since the 70s. And the latest generation of Mustangs -- while very nice looking, don't have the aggressive purposeful look of say, the the 69-70 Mustang or even our Terminators.

'Course it's moot. I'll never have enough disposable cash to buy one......

well the GT500 makes more power and is faster in the 1/4 so its all about perspective

The corvette always has been and always will be an old man's car. Other than the 427 white vert, modern vette's do nothing for me

with that said though, there is no denying that this latest platform has some serious performance capabilities

I think Jim's point was that it looked a lot better, not performs better.
But I still can't get into that rear end of the car. From the doors back. Chevy right now just messes up the rear end look of their cars. Look at Camaro, the rear end is just disporportionate to the front. The new Vette is the same.
Now don't get me wrong the last few years Vette I actually liked, this new one just looks funny.

Looks totally different in person. I thought the back end was messed up too, but in person it's not as glaring. Although it should have round tailights, not square ones ripped off the Malibu.

Ian -- I agree that the Corvette has turned into an old mans car -- simply because the price of them went into orbit about 20 years ago. (I remember lots of 30 somethings driving them in the 70s and 80s before the price went crazy.)
But think about it -- who can afford $60,000+ "toys"? (Aside from "rich" kids)
Generally people who have established careers, probably got the kids out of the house, paid the mortgage, etc. So folks well out of their 30s and 40s.
And by the way with the GT500s going for $50K+ now -- who have you noticed buying most of them? Oh yeah, people who have established careers, probably got the kids out of the house, paid the mortgage, etc..... egad.

All you have to do is go to a car show and see who owns the 2011 - 2013 Mustang 5.0's and you'll see where i am coming from

Mustang 5.0s you might be right. But they're not in the same market segment with corvettes. Who's buying the majority of GT500s and Boss302s? Not 30 year olds for the most part.

Ed has mentioned this in the past....... The newer "High Dollar" cars are not going to the recent college grads. You need a little bank roll to afford one of them. Only makes sense especially in that segment.

boss 302's and GT500's I'd say that's definitly the case

but i just don't accept the fact the average mustang GT owner is 50 years old lol.......

You're undoubtedly right. But with a "typical" Mustang GT being a $35-40K car now, it isn't 20 year olds buying them either. Typical buyer is probably well into the 30s.

In 1987 -- at 22 years old -- I bought a brand new GT for $12,700 out the door. It wasn't loaded, but even if it was, I think they only went up to about $15k for a loaded hardtop. Even then that was affordable for a young guy of college graduate age.
Today, GTs are well out of "first new car" range. It's too bad, but then again, the 20 year olds aren't even buying sports cars anyway. They're buying "lifestyle" cars. ick.

The Only younger people buying Mustangs are the ones buying the yellow Ones Thats because they can't give them away
