The Shelby 1000 is a Ford Mustang that has the power of a Bugatti Veyron supercar, for a fraction of the price.

The Shelby 1000 is built off of a 662-horsepower 2013 Shelby GT500, a high-end Mustang with a howling 5.8-liter V-8. The aftermarket firm rebuilds the engine -- actually pretty much the whole innards of the car -- to add the astounding extra horsepower and suspension, steering and other components to support it.

At 1,200 horsepower, the new Shelby 1000 equals the sheer output of a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, a million-dollar-plus supercar.

Owners bring in their new car and Shelby rebuilds it for $154,995 for the track version, $149,995 for a the street version, according to Shelby American. Luft says total cost of the car and conversion will come to about $210,000 -- a fraction of the cost of the Veyron.

That's what Shelby American is promising with the latest version of its Shelby 1000, being unveiled next week at the New York Auto Show.

Ive seen it up close last year at Watkins Glenn its very Impressive no doubt.But Jim come on if the two were side by side and you had your choice no Question The mustang is a great car but the Veyron is a work of art and the New Vittese is a mind blower.The car frame and body are all carbon fiber and is faster than the first one.Although the price is 2.5 Million Make mine the Bugatti and make it Black

Dennis, the facts you state are correct, but I personally think the Veyron is butt-ugly. You may not believe me, but I'd take the Stang hands down. "Your mileage may vary!" ;)

I guess my only question would be how does the Mustang handle? I've seen the 1000hp viper run on a track, and it doesn't handle at all. In fact the time I saw it it lost control on the straight away going 120mph+.
The Veron was built to do those speeds in every sense and truely not much else. But sorry Bruce, I agree with Dennis, it is an unbelievable looking car. I don't know if I think that because of what it can do and how they made it look as well, probably has a little to do with it. If it could only top 100mph I might think a little different but I still like it the way it is.

It's an impressive set of numbers, but for $200,000 I can think of many other cars I'd rather have. To me, Mustangs kinda stop being Mustangs once they hit 6 digits in price.
Mustang = reasonably priced muscle
Mustang != exotic performance

+100000 on that

Sorry, if I have 200k to spend on a car, I am not buying a mustang. Can bet your ass I'd be buying a Lambo Gallardo LP570-4

I agree with you But thats when cost of a can of coke out of a vending machine was Twenty Five cents.And now in some places its over a buck and they haven't improved on it at all.Not the same case in the Mustang they have made many improvements to the car

You bet! Gotta agree with that! But if the choice was between that Stang and a Veyron, I'll still take the Stang. My personal choice - not everyone's.
