Ironic that the blizzard of '78 was 35 years ago this week. I remember coming out of the office, looking to the driveway, and only seeing the upper half of the car roofs. The entire remainder of the cars were buried in snow.

Actually, that's coincidence. Irony refers to something happening or something said about someone where the underlying meaning is the exact opposite of the literal meaning. A coincidence describes completely independent events that happened to interact in an unexpected way.

For example it's ironic, that most of the "ironies" Alanis Morrisette sings about in her song "Ironic", are actually coincidences....
Her line about "Rain on your wedding day" is coincidence -- but would be quite ironic if you were getting married to Ra, the Sun god.

Anyway -- I'll take off my Grammar-Nazi hat now.....

Not me! I just got a 55 gallon drum of flour and 2 cases of Sterno! I'll make my own bread! :D

When I went out to look at the driveway the next morning it was really strange. I had my Lotus JPS in the driveway with a Datsun parked about two feet behind it. Due to wind patterns and drifting, the Datsun was buried with three feet of snow on top and more than six feet of snow behind it. The Lotus was completely bare, including the ground under it - just a little ice on the windshield. Wish I had taken a picture of that! My end of the street I lived on had more than seven feet of snow in the street. The other end of the block had no more than three feet of snow in the street.

Whether this is "ironic" or "coincidental" (maybe it's an "ironic coincidence"), we are in for a hell of a lot of snow. Blizzard watches in place, they are now saying we may see two feet of snow. Better cancel cruise night...

So now that they are saying 1-2 ft (we all know that means about 6 inches) I will be able to use my snow shoes for the first time. I actually bought them 3 YEARS AGO!!!!
The bad thing is I have an important pick up that I have to do either Friday or Saturday (we are pushing to Saturday). More details about this later.

I just hate that my company keeps closing the office but making us take time off for it!! They did it with Sandy, now they are closing all offices at noon and we can either not get paid or take time off. With Sandy they just told us to go home, no warning.

I work in MA. Gov. Patrick said he wanted everyone off the roads by noon, so they sent everyone home at 10AM. That's when I usually arrive at work - good thing I didn't head down there today as I would have just had to turn around a drive back. I love it when a plan comes together!

I realized some of us may need to clear roof's. Having a new hip, my son may have to climb up to do it. I may however try a little snow shoeing.

I WILL use my snow shoes!!! But if I'm going to, it will have to be tomorrow. Sunday I will be busy and then it's going to be 90 degrees and rain and all the snow will be gone by the weekend. Then I'll turn my snow shoes into mud shoes.

Woke up this AM and no one told me there would be snow in my yard!!!
My car actually has no snow on it, but the snow is up past the wheel wells on all sides. I also have 2+ ft walls around my driveway, which I can't see any of it. Not looking forward to snowblowing with this wind though.
The iron thing is that this weekend was Lowell's Winter Fest and they had to postpone it until 2 weeks from now. The Winni Ice Fishing Derby is still on though, so get your Bobhouse out to the big lake and start sitting there in the snow!!!!!

I saw that we got officially 26", but walking around my yard in my 3yo snow shoes I measured an average of about 18-20". I have my authentic Russian hat that my parents brought back for me and my Speedo. It's nice out!! The sun is shining there's a gentle trade wind blowing. Waht more could we ask for?

Here are some pics of the house. In the garage view the red bin is the town trash can, which is actually pretty big!! I love how I didn't have to clean my car off, all the snow was off it.
There was 36" on my stairs.

That doesn't happen if you upload your pics to Photobucket or another host, and then using the insert Image tool when making your post UNCLICK the "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" button.

This is a funny video I shot of my dog, Tiber (short for Tiberius) when he went out on Sat morning. He generally loves snow, but not so much when it's up past his chest.
This snow was deep and he's a big dog -- almost 80lbs of German Shepherd.
The look he has when he lands in the snow is hysterical.

An Elkhound I used to have loved that! He used to use his chest as a snow plow and loved forcing his way through the snow. Or under it! One of his favorite things used to be to make tunnels under the snow. Every now and then you would see a black nose poke up out of high snow for 15-20 seconds while he filled his lungs again! That was funny to watch.

Yup, Max would have been burried alive!!!! I had to snowblow the entire back yard for him. He doesn't really like the snow, especially when it's WAY over his head!!
