Camaro upgrade

Have a friend with an 80's Camaro, looking to do a mild upgrade, cam, heads, etc. Any recommendations?

I had a '81 once, I special ordered brand new with V6, my friend order a Z28, both truly POS. Back then new they were awful, only had couple years we both dumped them.
If he does any engine upgrades, what's his trans like? They orig had issues.

Would he consider a drop in crate engine? Comes with warranty. His "mods" won't.

He really didn't mention swapping motors, only doing mild upgrades to freshen it up

Well that's the first question, how many miles on the engine? If it's orig from the 80's, then most likely tied. Why then think of heads and stuff? Replace it for reliability and way better technology & performance than what was orig. Just say'in
