I have been interested lately in what Ford is up to with the new mustang and the modern muscle car wars. It appears Ford is the first to blink...........

Details about the Cobra/Shelby product are starting to get leaked....

http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?1032974-Looks-like-the-2016-SVT-Mustang-is-confirmed-to-have-a-5-2L-widebody
http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?1033611-S550-What-Can-Be-Gleaned-from-the-Leaked-Ford-Part-Listings

It's a lot of reading, but if you pay attention to the details like some of these guy's there's a lot to be taken away.

The cliffs:

- GT500 is bye bye....next specialty car is the GT350
- Next car will have a 5.2 v8 500hp- the supercharged 5.8 "Trinity" is retired
- There will be no Cobra until 2016/2017
- S550 mustang exhaust is one piece

Before you insert the "it's on the internets, there fore it must be true" argument....keep in mind SVTp is pretty well connected.

Should be interesting if you ask me --

Saw a video last night from Ford with the guy showing off the car- (Steven Ling - North american car marketing manager for Ford) He would not give HP #'s but said there was going to be only 3 engine sizes - 1 4 cylinder = 2.3 Turbo with at least 310 HP (Holy shit! 1st thing to go threw my mind) 1st turbo since 1986 SVO model -- 1 6 cylinder that would be a 3.6 (over 300 HP) and a 8 cylinder that would be a 5.0 and it would have around 500 HP -----also will come stock lowered and come wider - Rear independent suspension - Push button start standard - No glass roof or sun roof - Inside is the coolest and nicest i ever seen in a Mustang! Not sure if i like the outside yet ... hmmm
True or not we will soon find out ;)

This is what Car and Driver is saying ...

"Ford has many plans for ultra-high-performance Mustangs. The first will be a successor to the Shelby-branded GT500, and the company will continue to offer Ford’s “Trinity” supercharged 5.8-liter V-8 making 662 horses. Past the new-gen Shelby GT500, Ford has additional powertrain options for two more hi-po nameplates.

The first is a twin-turbocharged V-8, code-named “Voodoo,” which displaces between 5.0 and 5.5 liters and, most intriguingly, has a “flat-plane” or 180-degree crankshaft, as Ferrari has used in its V-8s since 1973. This configuration, also found in the late Lotus Esprit V-8, is akin to connecting two four-cylinder banks to a common crankshaft. Flat cranks theoretically improve power, throttle response, and the soundtrack at the expense of greater vibration. This EcoBoost V-8 will produce between 550 and 600 horses. It will power a Shelby GT350–branded model that eventually will take over from the GT500, as Ford is desperate to discontinue that car’s costly and thirsty Trinity."

yeah, Car and Driver is way off........As mentioned, if you click the link in my first post, you can clearly see there is a 5.2 liter NA V8 option already showing up on Fords part listings

I wonder if they are rolling out that engine later on during the year or early next year - if you go to try to order a car that engine is not there to pick - Nor is the gt500 or a gt350 - People are saying dealers are getting the go ahead to see the cars in like 2-3 weeks - I have not seen any here in NH (I have not look for one- i was at the dealer in Salem,NH 2 weeks ago and they did not have any yet) Other people around the country are saying there dealer has them now... (Not for sale yet)

From the articles I've seen, the 5.2L is going to be the upgraded engine for the upcoming Shelby GT350 and perhaps future Cobras. It is not part of the "normal" Mustang lineup.
The GT350 is supposed to take the place of the most recent Boss 302. Likely going to be a track oriented car.

+1 to what Jim said....the GT350 is supposed to be released mid 2015
